Extending Laptop Battery Life

Getting the most from your laptop’s battery can be trying. While companies boast 5 to 6 hour run times, I’ve found this is rarely the case. Below are five tips to increase your laptop’s battery life that are perfect for travelers or anyone who uses their laptop on the road.
Capacity: 6600mAh
Decrease the brightness: Drop the brightness down tot he lowest setting that will still allow you to be productive. Instead of editing pictures, for example, I will sort through and organize my photos into folder so I can edit them when I have access to an electric outlet. Remember, if you are editing pictures in Photoshop or some other editing software, be prepared for heavy battery drainage.
2. Unplug USB peripherals: iPods, SD card readers and other USB devices are battery blood suckers. Try not to forget about these items because they will drain your power. One key to battery life is to make sure your computer does not have to work harder than needed.
3. Turn off WiFi and/or Bluetooth: This one is easy to forget, but definitely crucial to preserving battery life. If the WiFi is on, even if you are not online, it is still draining your battery. So, shut it off this will ensure your computer isn’t working overtime trying to find possible Internet connections.

4. Eject discs from the CD/DVD drive: A spinning disc equals battery drain. Again, this is another easy one to forget. Watch a movie, fall asleep and you could forget for days that there is even a CD/DVD in your computer. Double checking and ejecting any unnecessary discs will make your computer battery happy!
5. Put your laptop to sleep: For short downtimes between use, its best for your battery life if you put your laptop to sleep. For longer periods in between use, place your laptop in hibernate mode.
